Independence High School Patriots 

Soccer:



C Van Than – This outstanding junior athlete started the week with 18 goals.  He scored two goals against Rocky River and then Scored four goals in the Forest Hills match later in the week.  He now has 24 goals on the season breaking the Patriots single season scoring record previously held by Julian Peralta set in 2002.  C Van is now the Patriots single season scoring record holder with more games to be played.  Congratulations!

Cross Country:

Nicholas Obrien-Pifer – This athlete ran an 18:15 in the Hounds and Hare race last Saturday for the Patriots.  Other top runners of the week include Darius Templeton who ran a solid time of 19:50, and Samantha Brennan ran a nice time of 23:52 in their most recent races.

Football:

Zack Repak – The Patriots defensive back intercepted a pass from East Mecklenburg QB Khalil Gilliam and he returned the pick for a 10 yard touchdown romping into the end zone providing Independence with their only score of the contest.

Queens Grant High School Stallions 

Soccer:

Mario Portillo – The junior midfielder scored the initial and winning goal in the game against Mountain Island Charter this past week.  Carlos Resillas a sophomore midfielder scored the second goal of the contest, while senior midfielder Jake Braswell rocketed in the clincher for the Stallions in their 3-0 victory.

Football:

Jaylon Sharpe – The active junior middle linebacker had 7 solo tackles and 7 assisted tackles along with 2 forced fumbles leading the Ravens defense against the Mustangs from Myers Park.

Khalil Turner – The junior free safety contributed 5 solo tackles and 3 assisted tackles including an interception for the Ravens defense against Myers Park.

Gabriel Linen – A junior running back picked up 45 tough yards on 14 carries, including 3 pass receptions for another 30 yards for a combined total of 75 yards against the Mustangs this past week.
