
Independence Patriots
Soccer:
Cvan Than – The senior scoring leader and single season record holder scored the winning goal in the Patriots upset win over #1 West seed Northwest Guilford to propel Independence into a third round game vs. Myers Park in the state playoffs.
Chase Davis – The hard working senior forward had the most important assist of the season to date when he connected with Cvan Than on the game winning goal against Northwest Guilford.
Adam Ali – The senior goalkeeper had a clean sheet against Northwest Guilford in the upset match with multiple saves for the Patriots.
Tennis:
Maddie Fowler – This outstanding freshman had an exception first season as a Patriot. Her season record was 13 wins and 1 loss, she was unbeaten in conference competition with a 12-0 record, and her overall record was 19 wins and 4 losses against tough competition and more mature players. She brought consistency and leadership to the Girls Tennis Team.
Cross Country:
Nicholas O’Brien-Pifer – The sophomore runner tallied the best time for the Patriots in the 4A Cross Country Championship with a 17:30.83 finish time in the 5K run.
Queens Grant Stallions:
Soccer:
Mario Portillo – The senior scoring leader slammed three goals for the Stallions in their upset victory over Blue Ridge to advance in the state playoffs.
Micah Parker – Had an assist and scored a goal for the Stallions in their final two playoff games to finish his junior season with solid performances.
Cross Country:
Lucas Brown – The Stallions track and field senior standout finished fourth in the State 1A Cross Country Championships. He was considered to be a major contender for the title along with four other runners from across the state. Brown finished only 15 seconds off the winners pace in an extremely competitive 5K race with a 16:43.18 time.
