Independence High School Patriots

Golf/Softball:



Parker Melting – The senior standout golfer signed a letter of intent with UNC-Pembroke where she will take her skills and talent next Fall.

Kendall Anderson Senior softball talent Kendall Anderson signed her letter of intent with Charleston Southern University where she will play for the Buccaneers.

Soccer:

C. Van Than – The junior forward and new school all-time single season scoring record holder for the Patriots ended this years campaign with 31 goals and 3 assists for Indy.

Queens Grant High School Stallions

Cross Country:

Lucas Brown –  The junior is one of the best cross country runners and track athletes in our area.  He finished second at the 1A NCHSAA State Cross Country Championships with a 16:36 time at the event held on 11/4.  His time would have had Lucas finish is the top 25 in the 4A championships statewide.  Meanwhile, QGHS runners sophomore Matthew Daugherty finished 48th with an 18:19 run, and freshman Joshua Divers finished 88th with a 19:17 time in a field of 147 top 1A qualified competitors throughout the state.

Soccer:

Mario Portillo – Scored a goal against Gray Stone Day in the second round of the 1A State Soccer Championships for the Stallions.  Portillo was the leading goals scorer for QGHS this season knocking in 23 goals while adding 3 assists.

Jake Braswell – The senior scored a goal in the Gray Stone match to tie the game in the teams 3-2 loss in the second round playoff contest.  Braswell ended the season with 10 goals and 6 assists.

Jose Duarte – In the loss to Gray Stone in the second round of the playoffs the senior goalkeeper made 12 saves for the Stallions with 15 shots on goal by their opponent.  For the season Duarte had 8 shut-outs, 153 saves and a 1.755 goals against average.
