Independence 72 – East Mecklenburg 40 (Round 1)

On Tuesday night February 13th the Southwestern 4A Tournament kicked-off with the Men’s game between Independence the top seated team against East Mecklenburg the eight seated team in the tournament.  The Patriots ran away with a 72-40 win to move on to the next round to face Myers Park in Round 2 on Thursday night at 7:00 PM.



Senior Jamarius Burton scored 15 points, 6 rebounds with 3 assists showed his senior leadership by keeping complete control of the game and it’s tempo was named the “Player of the Game.”  Junior Matt Smith had a double-double contributing 12 points and 11 rebounds, while Jordan Mobley added 14 points in the Patriots first round victory.

Rocky River 82 – Garinger 35 

Meanwhile, Rocky River the number two seated team took on Garinger the seventh seated team and dominated with an 82-35 win in the first round of the tournament.

Sophomore sensation Jaden Springer who has been averaging 24.7 points per game for the season scored 27 points for the victors while sitting out the entire fourth period, he also had multiple assists, steals and 2 blocks.  While Darlinstone Dubar contributed 14 points sitting the fourth period with 2 blocks and multiple rebounds.  Tray Williams added 11 points and Khalil Brantley 10 points for the Ravens.  Rocky River will play local rival Butler in the second round on Thursday night at 7:00 PM.

Rocky River 55 Independence 27 (Girls)

The Rocky River Lady Ravens played the Lady Patriots in the opening round at 8:00 PM and the Ravens continued their dominance over Independence with a 55-27 victory.  With the win the Lady Ravens are now 9-6 in the conference while Indy is 13-12 overall, and 6-9 in the conference.

Junior Eva Powell scored 14 points and hauled down 11 rebounds for the double-double,  Mashya Scott added 14 points, while Andresia Alexander contibuted 11 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists for the victorious Ravens.  Braylyn Milton scored 12 points with 5 rebounds for the Patriots.  The Lady Ravens will take on Hickory Ridge on Thursday night at 5:30 PM.
