The Stallions talented junior Cross Country runner and track athlete continues to shine and improve his times and overall performance.  Lucas finished second in the States NCHSAA 1A Cross Country Championships against a strong group of runners with a time of 16:36.  Overall, his time would place him in the top 25 runners statewide including all divisions through 4A Championships.

Lucas was nominated last year as a sophomore to the All-Conference Team in the 1600 and 3200 meter races.  He is expected to perform at a high level again this season in these events as well and potentially have dominating performances.

“It’s an honor and I feel humbled to be selected to the All-Conference and All-Region teams, said Lucas.  He never thought he would achieve these athletic accomplishments as he did not take running seriously prior to high school.  “It’s been a lot of hard work and dedication to the sport, my coaches and teammates have motivated me too,” added Lucas.

He is big on setting goals and next year his goal is to win the State 1A Cross Country Championships. This is going to take more hard work because the competition is going to be real tough between the top 5-10 runners according to Lucas.  All our times are very competitive so it’s going to be a challenge.

Lucas would like to thank his head coach Tyler Sinclair at QGHS, including coaches Bowman and Danny Stein for all there guidance and advice.  He would also like to acknowledge his entire family for their support, providing transportation, and for just giving him encouragement to always do his best.

He is a solid student with a 4.3 GPA and is taking both honors and two AP classes which keeps him busy academically.  He also plans on taking a full challenging academic program during his senior year beginning in the Fall of 2018.

He has received interest and letters from the following colleges and universities to date.  The list includes Wingate University, Queens, Belmont Abbey, Pomona and Pitzer Colleges, located in California.  His favorite subject is mathematics and he enjoys working with numbers so Lucas is considering a career in accounting, finance or a math related field.

Lucas enjoys the camaraderie of athletics and likes to compete against himself and others.  It’s really a small family of athletes at QGHS.  However, meeting competitors from other schools is interesting and sometimes you do make new friends along the journey.  Lucas who is always smiling is having the time of his life right now.
