Ayana Dennis the Stallions track and field standout signed a commitment letter to Lane College located in Jackson, Tennessee. She has excelled in the 400 and 800 meter events. Ayana also has been working on strengthening her skills in the hurdles and plans to pursue this event as well in college.
She selected Lane College because of the small school environment. It’s also a Christian based institution, with small classes, family oriented atmosphere which makes her comfortable. When she met the coaching staff at the college she felt wanted and was welcomed into their program. Anaya plans to major in biology and will take pre-medical classes as her career goal is to become a Physicians Assistant.

As an individual what motivates her is the desire to excel and strive to be the best she can possible become as a person and athlete. Also, she wants to be a leader and set an example for other student athletes. She is a solid student with excellent grades and is looking forward to moving on to college life.
Her parents have always been very supportive and are her biggest fans. Her AAU Coach Darrell Pegram, who is the assistant track coach at Independence high school has been a huge influence and mentor. He always sees the potential in an athlete, he has shown me what I can achieve through hard work, dedication and making a commitment to improving myself,” said Ayana.
Ayana who has a strong religious foundation enjoys participating on mission trips with her church family. She has visited Jamaica and Bemidji, Minnesota on missions over summer months which has been a great learning experience. As expected she also enjoys running and spending time with her family and friends.
She is a typical high school senior in many ways. Therefore, she wanted to share some of her favorite activities with us. She is consistently working out daily to get her heart rate up, performing stretching exercises, and will run 5 x 200 meter runs as a normal routine. Her favorite movie is “Five Minute Mile” which she finds motivating. She enjoys 90’s music which she considers to be old school. While academically math and science are her best and favorite subjects.
The advice she would like to give to her underclassman at QGHS is to never get to comfortable, always continue to strive to be the best. Lastly, she would like to thank everyone and all her coaches who believed in her as it’s truly much appreciated.
