
On Tuesday afternoon the Independence Patriots baseball team traveled to
Porter Ridge High School for a Southwestern 4A Conference baseball
game against the Pirates.
Brennen Malone pitched a three hit shutout for the Pirates striking out 11
of 23 batters. While Indy’s Nick Milton gave up one run on five hits as the
Pirates took the victory and swept the season series with the Patriots 1-0.

In the bottom of the third inning Porter Ridge’s Alex Pressley came to the
plate with the bases loaded and one out. Pressley hit a grounder to Indy’s
third baseman Angelo Alderondo who fielded the ball and threw to Indy’s
catcher Cooper Fandel for the force out at home. The Pirates next batter
lined out to Indy’s second baseman Ryan Mangum to end the inning
holding the Pirates scoreless at the end of three.

The only score came in the bottom of the fourth inning. Pirates’ lead off
hitter Tristan Shea hit a double to left field. Chris Gill followed with a single
to center moving Shea to third; however, Gill was thrown out at second.
Garrett Lanzo came to the plate and got the RBI with a single to left field
that gave the Pirates a 1-0 lead.
The rest of the game was a defensive battle between the two teams with
Porter Ridge picking up the conference win moving to 9-6 over all and 3-3
in the conference.
Indy dropped their fourth straight game falling to 7-8 overall and 4-5 in
conference play.
