Porter Ridge defeats Lady Patriots at home 9-1

On a sunny windy day at the Lady Patriots home stadium the hard hitting Porter Ridge Lady Pirates dominated this contest from the fourth inning of the game.

In the second inning Kenlyn Walker hit a home run to drive in two runs giving the Pirates a 2-0 lead.  However, in the bottom of the second Independence bounced back scoring one run when Anna Easter hit a double in the gap, and Huntleigh Williams singled to drive in the only run of the day for the Lady Patriots.



In the third inning with two outs and a runner on first Jessica Benckert slammed a home run to deep left center giving Porter Ridge a 4 -1 lead off of Indy starter Leah Renn.

In the fourth inning Kayla Douglas replaced Renn on the mound and was rudely welcomed by the Lady Pirates who connected on a few key hits with some miscues by the home team on the infield.  By the end of the inning the visitors added 3 more runs to increase their lead to 7-1.

In the fifth inning Douglas settled down and struck out the first two batters while the third hitter fouled out to the catcher.  Meanwhile, Sloan Ducey the Porter Ridge ace was not giving up any hits to the hometown team and was in complete control in a dominating performance.

In the sixth inning after getting two quick outs, a runner reached base on an infield hit and Samantha Matsil connected on a two run homer down the left field foul line increasing the Pirates lead to 9-1 putting the game out of reach and preventing any comeback hopes on the Lady Patriots minds on this day.

Ducey continued her dominance in the home team seventh inning by easily retiring the first three batters she fasted.

Independence suffered their first loss of the season and are now 3-1 overall, and 1-1 in their conference.  Porter Ridge is now 4-2 overall, and 1-0 in conference play.
