
Porter Ridge’s senior running back Jaylen Coleman ran for 163 yards on 13 carries and two touchdowns as the Porter Ridge Pirates came to Independence High School and defeated the Patriots 45-7.
The Pirates (4-3) scored two touchdowns in the first quarter and added two more scores in the second quarter to take a 28-7 half time lead over the Patriots (4-3) and didn’t look back as the Pirates took the SW4A Conference win.

In addition to Porter Ridge’s Jaylen Coleman’s performance, senior quarterback Grayson McCall rushed for 160 yards on nine carries, completed 6-of-9 pass attempts and threw for one touchdown. Malcolm Hines picked up 65 yards on five rushes. Kirkland Harris added 18 yards. Ralph Covington ran for 10 and Alec Chapman added 7 yards. Porter Ridge racked up 423 yards on 36 carries and added another 124 yards through the air for 548 yards of total offense.
The Pirates got on the board at the 6:41 mark in the first quarter as Malcolm Hines ran for an eight yard touchdown. With the ball on Indy’s eight yard line, the Pirates threatened with 4:26 left in the first quarter. Grayson McCall attempted a pass into the end zone which was picked off by Indy’s Zach Repak who ran it out to the 13 yard line.  Indy fumbled the ball on the 26 yard line, and Porter Ridge recovered the loose ball with 2:08 left in the period. The Pirates didn’t waste any time as they moved the ball to the eight yard line.

On the next play McCall pitched to Jaylen Coleman for the eight yard touchdown run and took a14-0 lead with 1:05 showing on the clock.
With 11:41 remaining in the second, Jaylen Coleman ran around his left end before Indy’s Elijah Purands knocked him out-of-bounds on the 21 yard line. On the next play McCall found Colton Richardson for a 21 yard touchdown pass making the score 21-0 with 11:34 remaining in the first half.  Indy started on their own 20. McPhail hit Antwan Watson on a short pass across the middle. Watson took a hard hit and went down with a leg injury. AmarRay Green took a short pass and got the ball down to the Pirates’ 3 yard line. On the next play Indy lost three yards moving the ball back to 6 yard line. Indy fumbled the ball in the back field, and Porter Ridge recovered on the 12 with 7:43 left in the first half.

With 5:08 showing on the clock Porter Ridge attempted a pass that was picked off by Quihamari McCall who returned it out to the 30 yard line.
Indy moved the ball down to the Pirates’ 35 yard line on a McPhail pass to Brevin Caldwell. Another pass to Caldwell picked up 18 yards. Indy moved to the 9 with a pass to Trevor Bryan. AmarRay Green ran off tackle to the four giving a first and goal with 1:47 left in the first half. After a defensive pass interference call, Indy had the ball on the two yard line. Indy ran a quarterback keeper, and McPhail fought his way into the end zone to make the score 21-7 with 49.9 seconds left in the first half.
The Patriots attempted an onside kick which was recovered by the Pirates on their 45 yard line with 49.4 seconds showing on the clock.
The Pirates ran a quarterback option to the right side of the field. McCall pitched to Coleman, who cut back across the field and ran down the left sideline to the five yard line before being knocked out-of-bounds by Indy’s Elijah Purands with 9 seconds left in the first half. On the next play the Pirates pitched out to Coleman who ran it in for the score with 4.1 seconds left in the half. The point after was good and the Pirates took a 28-7 half time lead.

Starting the second half Porter Ridge took the kick off to their own 35. At the 10:33 mark McCall pitched out to Jaylin Daniels for a touchdown to increase their lead to 35-7.  The Pirates scored again with 4:42 remaining as quarterback McCall ran in on a quarterback keeper making the score 42-7.  The Patriots squandered another scoring opportunity at the 3:38 mark in the third quarter by turning the ball over on the Pirates’ 20 yard line.
Porter Ridge drove the ball down the field to the 15 yard line. After a holding penalty and a false start penalty, the Pirates settled for a 42 yard field goal making the score 45-7.  Neither team could manage any more points and the game ended with the Pirates taking a 45-7 Southwestern 4A Conference win.
Next Friday night the Patriots will travel to Butler to take on the Bulldogs with kickoff scheduled for 7:00 pm.
