The Independence High school Soccer club improved their season record to 13-8 overall, and 7-6 in the Southwestern 4A Conference with a decisive win over Rocky River 7-0 at home recently.

The Patriots leading all-time single season goal scorer C. Van Than added to his record setting mark with his 30th goal of the season while adding two assists in the victory.  The junior forward continues to pressure defenses with his aggressive play, especially around the net inside the box.

Meanwhile, junior Chase Davis contributed two nifty goals and one assist in the match for the Patriots.  Nigel Johnson another junior had two assists and rocketed a goal past the Ravens goalkeeper for a score in the rout.

Other key contributions were made by senior Jack Hebert, senior Jack Chernewych and sophomore Pablo Arguello who each scored a goal for Independence keeping this game a one sided affair for the home team.

Goalkeeper’s Omar Arellano and Thang Thawng both combined for the clean sheet in goal, while the Patriots defense played an outstanding game thwarting any real offensive threats made by the Ravens.

The Patriots dominated the time of possession with two-thirds of the match being played on the visitors end of the playing field keeping tremendous pressure on the Ravens defense and goalkeeper.  Their aggressive style of play and fast paced tempo throughout the contest was absolutely outstanding and the Ravens seemed to have no answers of their own to mount any kind of counterattack to get themselves back into the game.  The first half ended with the Patriots having a comfortable 4-0 lead.  They added 3 more goals in the second half to continue their domination.

Independence took a total of 21 shots of which 14 were on target, while the Ravens had only 2 shots on goal that amounted to saves for the Patriots goalkeepers who split their time defending the net.
