National Signing Day is usually held on the first Wednesday in February annually. It’s the first day a high school senior can sign a binding National Letter of Intent (NLI) for college athletics with a college or university who is a member of the United States National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA).
Locally at Independence High School there were seven young athletes who have had solid and consistent high school athletic performances in four different sports. These athletes have excelled and standout amongst their peers. They are all deserving of recognition for their ability, hard work, and accomplishment. The signings are certainly an achievement these athletes, their families, and local community can all celebrate.
The signing ceremony and celebration was held at the auxiliary gymnasium with Principal Legrand, Athletic Director Kelly Lewis, team head coaches, family and friends. The following athletes were recognized for their accomplishment. Justyn Hamilton, basketball, Temple University, Cooper Fandel, baseball, King University, Logan Brock, football, Wingate University, Xavier Lenear, football, North Carolina Central University, Tiffany Reed, Glodi Elofa, Xavier Ramsey, track and field, Lane College.
The Mint Hill Times staff and this writer certainly wish these student athletes much success at the college level, and in all future endeavors in life’s journey.
