Mint Hill Featured Athletes Of The Week

This week we are going to feature basketball, football and soccer since the All-State team selections have been announced. We are fortunate to have some local athletes nominated to the football and soccer teams who deserve recognition in the Mint Hill-Matthews area.

Athlete of the Week:



Tosh Alberga – The 6’6″ junior had a monster game against Rocky River when he tallied 20 points, hauled down 10 rebounds, added 7 blocks, 1 assist, 1 steal, 1 deflection in the Patriots 63-45 4A Conference 59 victory. He also played a solid game in a valiant effort against arch rival Butler on Friday night scoring 9 points, 9 rebounds just missing out on his second double-double of the week.

Honorable Mention:

Chloe Moss – The junior continues to give the Lady Patriots a solid effort weekly. She scored 10 points and grabbed 3 rebounds, 3 steals against Rocky River, then scored 22 points hauling down 8 rebounds against arch rival Butler.

Kamryn Kitchen – The sophomore scored 18 points against Rocky River with 6 steals, 4 assists, 1 block, and added 16 points with multiple steals and assists against the Lady Bulldogs.

Natalie Goodfellow – In a recent game the senior scored 23 points, drilled four 3-pointers, added 4 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals for the Lady Stallions from QGHS.

Nasya Allen – The senior had a double-double recently scoring 19 points, grabbed 12 rebounds, along with 1 assist in a win for the Lady Stallions.

Josh Iseah – The Indy LB two sport athlete was selected to the All-State third team defense with 125 tackles (9.6 per game), 17, TFL, 3.5 sacks, 2 interceptions, 7 PBU, 3 FF, 1 block kick on the season.

Justin Little – The Indy sophomore QB was named honorable mention on the All-State offensive team by completing 189/260 passes for 62.2%, 2,884 yards, 180.3 per game a total of 39 TD’s, 140 carries for 837 yards and 15 TD’s.

Quentin Reddish – The Patriots DB was selected as honorable mention in the All-State defensive team with 76 tackles, 5 interceptions, 15 PBU, and 1 FR.

Phillip Harris – The Butler DB had 76 tackles, 7, TFL, 5 interceptions, 25 PBU, 1 FF, 1 FR while being named to the second All-State defensive team.

Tyquan Rankin – The Bulldog LB was named honorable mention to the All-State football team with 134 tackles, (10.3 per game), 38 TFL, 4 sacks, 3 interceptions, 12 PBU, 1 FF, while he had 17 carries, 37 yards for 3 TD’s in short yardage situations.

Jaylen Jones – The Butler DB was an honorable mention defender on the All-State football team and is a Georgia State recruit. He had 38 tackles, 4, TFL, 2 INT, 19 PBU, and 1 FF.

Gus Mendieta – The Carmel Christian senior Midfielder was named to the second All-State soccer team with 11 goals and 8 assists.
