On Thursday the Independence Lady Patriots traveled to Asheboro to face the Uwharrie Charter Academy Eagles in a non-conference basketball game.

The Lady Patriots’ offense got off to a slow start scoring only 7 points in the first quarter  However,  Indy stepped up its defensive intensity and held the Lady Eagles to 2 points.  All night long the Lady Patriots proceeded to smother the Lady Eagles with a tenacious defense and aggressive rebounding.

In the second quarter the Lady Patriots’ offense caught fire behind Ayanna Anderson’s 10 points leading Indy to a 22 point second period. The stingy defense allowed only one Uwarrie point to take a 29-3 halftime lead.

Indy came out in the third quarter and poured in 19 more points while Uwharrie could only manage one third quarter point.  Once Again Ayanna Anderson led the way scoring 6 of her 18 points in the period as the Lady Patriots led 48-4 at the end of the third quarter.

In the final stanza the Lady Patriots’ offense let up a little scoring only 9 fourth quarter points, but they kept up their defensive intensity allowing only one fourth quarter point from the Lady Eagles.  The Lady Patriots took the 52 point victory and improved their record to 5-2.

Ayanna Anderson had a double double and led the Lady Patriots with 18 points and 11 rebounds.  Braylyn Milton also had a double double scoring 12 points while handing out 10 assists.  She got 8 steals and had 6 rebounds.  Sharonda Smith added 9 points and grabbed 6 rebounds.  She had 4 steals and 2 assists.  Brianna Grant had 6 points, 3 rebounds and had 1 steal.   Brianna McManus scored 5 points, had 2 rebounds and 2 steals.  Laura Flynn hit for 4 points,  got 7 rebounds and had 1 assist.           Kalyn Perry had 2 points.  Azuria Barrino finished the night with 1 point and 3 rebounds.
