
Independence golf and softball standouts Parker Melton and Kendall Anderson signed their National Letter of Intent on Wednesday. Parker Melton will attend and play women’s golf at UNC Pembroke. Kendall Anderson will attend and play softball at Charleston Southern University.
Athletic Director Elijah Ashley welcomed everyone and spoke about the outstanding job these two student athletes did at Independence. He told everyone that they will be leaving us soon and as athletic director, he wished them much success.

While at Independence Parker was a state qualifier all 4 years for the 4A State Girls Golf Championship. During her freshman year there was no conference championship, so she was named player of the year. She won the Southwestern 4A Conference championship her sophomore year with a score of 76, placed second her junior year with a score of 77, came back and won the conference championship her senior year with a score of 72. She was named a member of the Charlotte Observer first team all 4 years.

Kendall will give up her senior year and graduate in December. She will enroll at Charleston Southern in January which will make her eligible for the spring season. While playing at Independence Kendall pitched and played in the outfield. She received numerous awards while playing softball at Indy. She was named to the all conference team all of her three years. During her sophomore year Kendall received the honor of being named to the All-State softball team.
