After almost thirty years with Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools and thirteen years as Independence’s Athletic Director Kelly Lewis is leaving CMS to become the new Athletic Director and Assistant Principal at Eugene Ashley High School in Wilmington, North Carolina.
While he was athletic director at Indy, the Patriots won three state football championships, won conference championships in basketball, baseball and ladies softball and had one state championship wrestler.
The students and coaches at Eugene Ashley will find that Coach Lewis is an athletic director who believes in academics. He will let the players know academics are more important than winning games. As an assistant principal they will learn that Coach Lewis will be someone who will listen and help to solve problems.
Coach Lewis said, “He was looking forward to the new position and the challenges it will bring.”
