Not to take anything away from the Lady Ragin’Bulls as they are a very good team, but the Independence women’s basketball team collapsed against the Lady Ragin’ Bulls. The Lady Patriots simply had a bad night shooting, rebounding, ball handling and defending in Friday’s 68-26 road loss.
The Lady Bulls scored the first four points. At the 5:04 mark Indy’s Laura Flynn scored the Lady Patriots’ first field goal to make the score 4-2. Then the Lady Bulls went on a 10-0 run and took a 14-2 lead at the end of the first quarter.
Hickory Ridge opened the second period by hitting two foul shots and making a two pointer off an Indy turn over to make the score 18-2. Indy’s Sharonda Smith added the Patriots’ third point on a free throw with 6:20 left on the clock. Hickory Ridge drained a 3-pointer making the score 21-3. At the 5:25 mark Indy’s Julia Rohlfing hit a six foot jumper making the score 23-5. The Lady Patriots scored four more second quarter points while the Lady Bulls pushed the lead to 29 points and led 38-9 as the first half came to an end.
In the third period the Lady Bulls poured in 17 more points while holding the Lady Patriots to seven third quarter points and headed into the final period with Indy trailing 55-16.
The Lady Patriots best shooting quarter came in the fourth when they scored 10 points. However, the Lady Bulls scored 13 fourth quarter points to take a 68-26 Southwestern 4A Conference win.
Ayanna Anderson led the Lady Patriots with 9 points. Sharonda Smith added 8 points, Braylyn Milton 4, Julia Rohlfing 3, and Laura Flynn 2.
