Grace Holmes selected to Girl’s Lacrosse All-Conference Team

Independence High Schools Grace Holmes was recently nominated to the Conference 12 Girl’s Lacrosse team for 2018.  The senior Captain had a solid season for the Lady Patriots to end a very productive high school career as an attacker and midfielder.

Holmes scored a team leading 39 goals, fourth best in the conference, she added 2 assists for a total of 41 points.  She averaged 2.4 points per game, took 81 shots on goal, with and shooting percentage of .481.  Holmes averaged 2.4 ground balls per game for a total of 41, and won 45 draws in seventeen games for the Patriots.  She also plays for the Carolina Crush Lacrosse club that is coached by Independence coach Melissa LaDez.



Hope Hunter Nominated to Girl’s All-Conference Soccer Team 

The senior had a solid final season for the Lady Patriots playing in 16 games for coach Tyler Gibson.  Hunter scored 6 goals and had 6 assists for a total of 18 points.  She averaged 0.4 goals per game, and 1.1 points per game.  Overall, in her four year career Hunter would accumulate 93 points, 29 goals, 35 assists, average 0.4 goals per game, take 156 shots for an average of 2.4 shots per game.

Hunter was also selected and received the award of “Player of the Game” by Independence coaches four times during her high school career.

Other Independence High School athletes were nominated to All-Conference teams which include Brianna Grant and Adrianna Berry for softball, Devin Drummond for track, Jack Loric tennis and Mikayla Lamb.  We will include these athletes in our next edition of the Mint Hill Times.
