The Patriots two sport varsity athlete has been selected this weeks “Featured Player of the Week” for his outstanding performance on the basketball court and playing in the outfield or pitching for the Independence baseball team.

On the hardwood the senior point guard had another solid campaign for the Patriots during the 2018-2019 season.  He played an integral role setting up plays and pushing the ball up the court on a consistent basis with speed and precision.

In 29 games he averaged 10.0 points, 2.2 rebounds, 2.2 steals and 4.6 assists per game.  Milton scored 290 points, grabbed 65 rebounds, 64 steals and dished a team high 134 assists.  He scored some key points in big moments multiple times.  Perhaps his biggest moment was scoring on a baseline drive to the basket to defeat Carmel Christian with time running out.  He also scored the Pats 7 of 9 final points to clinch the non-conference victory against the 2A NCHSAA Men’s Basketball State Champions during the 2017-2018 campaign.

Meanwhile, on the baseball diamond he continues to make a contribution playing in the outfield for the Patriots or hurling from the mound.  In recent games played this past week he picked up a couple of RBI’s on base hits and pitched two shut-out innings while striking out three batters.

The Mint Hill Times Sports Editor and sports writers congratulate Raja Milton for be selected by our staff for this accomplishment.
