Patricia Ann Copeland Rushing, 74, of Mint Hill, died Saturday, August 12, 2017, at the Clear Creek Nursing and Rehabilitation Center where she had been a resident for the past six months.

Patricia, also known as “Muskrat”, “Pattycake”. “Momma Rushing” and “Momma Pat”, was born in Charlotte on July 31, 1943, the daughter of Samuel Allen and Elsie Mae Wilson Copeland. She grew up in the Charlotte area, living near the Mecklenburg-Union county line on Lawyers Road. On January 5th, 1961, she married Henry Louie Rushing, who preceded her in death in 1997. Together they had five children. She was blessed to be at home and care for their children and the whole neighborhood’s children as well. However many children would show up at her home, she would feed them all weenies on the back porch and then send them back off to play. A gifted storyteller, she also loved to write down her short stories. She also enjoyed art and cooking. Most of all, she loved the time spent with her friends and family. The blessing of this beautiful spirit will be sadly missed by all who knew her.

Patricia is survived by her children: Ronald Dale Rushing of Mint Hill, Tammy (Jerry) Lynn Rushing Benton of Union County, Louie Wayne Rushing of Union County and Maebelle (George Charles) Rushing Sleight of Mint Hill; grandchildren: Sarah Brittany Rushing, Ashley (Andy) Renee Benton Braswell, Cory Scott Benton, Melissa Ann Rushing Huether and Isabella Grace Sleight; and great grandchildren: Melanie and Maverick Braswell and Parker Springer. Patricia is further survived by her siblings: Trudy Williams of Charlotte, Carolyn McClain of Charlotte, Tracy (Rick) White of Mount Holly; and numerous other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by a son, Clint Lee Rushing; her parents; two brothers; and a sister.
