MINT HILL, NC – Melissa Ann Sumski, age 60, of Mint Hill, NC passed away on August 5th, 2020 after a 15 month battle with cancer. She was born in April of 1960 to parents Louise and Charles (Deceased) Dickey, Hord, of Bloomington, Illinois. Melissa married her longtime friend and love, Stephen Sumski, in 1981.

She is survived by her mother, husband, two brothers, and one sister: Charles E. Hord III (Jaclyn), Jennifer L. Gregory(Geoffrey), Jeffrey D. Hord (Gudrun); and five sons and their wives: Christopher Sumski (Lauren), Spencer Sumski (Brittany), Andrew Sumski (Brittney), Kevin Sumski, and Dylan Sumski; plus her five grandchildren: Mila, Ella, Lola, Leigha, and Ethan.

She will be sorely missed by her large family, which you’d expect to be much larger if you’ve ever had the pleasure of enjoying her unnecessarily extravagant meals she’d whip up every day that ends in “Y”.

Melissa was selfless, kind, and forgiving, yet she knew how to be firm and sugar-coated nothing. Well, except for her famous“Rabbit” Christmas cookies.
