Marion Kenneth (Ken) Carriker, 86, of Mint Hill passed away on April 22, 2020 at Presbyterian Hospital, surrounded by his family. He was born on November 4, 1933 in Union County, the son of Henry and Maude Carriker. He graduated from Unionville School in 1952 and went on to serve in the United States Army from 1952-1954.

Ken went to work with his father in the H.W. Carriker Cabinet Shop in Mint Hill, later taking over ownership and then retiring from the cabinet business in 1996. He was a talented craftsman of woodworking, and many people throughout the Mint Hill and Charlotte area still have his work in their homes today. He married his sweetheart of 64 years, Mary Walton Edwards, on December 11, 1955. They went on to have 2 children, Andrea Carriker Fite and Chris Matthew Carriker.

Once retired, Ken enjoyed tinkering in his shop behind his home, carting Mary around town and loving on his great-grandchildren. He could also frequently be found at local parks on long walks, and every afternoon he was at the bus stop to receive his great-grandson Karter off the bus.

Ken is survived by his wife Mary Edwards Carriker, their children Andrea Carriker Fite (Jeffrey Fite) and Chris Matthew Carriker. He also leaves behind one granddaughter Amanda Rose Ortmayer (Owen Ortmayer) and four great-grandchildren Eva and Noah Ortmayer and Karter and Lucas Fite(Kayla Yarbrough). Ken is preceded in death by his beloved grandson, Daniel Lee Fite.

A private graveside service will be held for immediate family at Sunset Memory Gardens on 4/23/2020.

Luke 23:43 NIV Jesus answered him, “Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in paradise.”

Ken. Dad. Grandpa. Papaw Carriker. You will live in our hearts forever.
