MINT HILL, NC – He was born in Gibson, NC in 1932, the second of five children of Marvin and Edith Haywood. He served in the Air Force during the Korean War as a Mechanics Crew Chief.

He held a variety of occupations after an honorable discharge from the military, including General Motors and as a salesman for The Singer Sewing Machine Co.

His life’s journey was always accented with kindness and humor. He was well-liked and remembered by those who knew him as a kind soul.

He is survived by his only son and best friend, Garland Haywood Jr., and daughter-in-law Tania, and his only grandchild Rayne. She was his fiercest competitor in a game of checkers and being the grandpa he was, he never pulled off a win!

He also leaves behind his sister, Edith Ann and her husband Bill Lineberger, and sister-in-law Elenor Haywood, as well as his former wife Caroline Haywood who remained a lifelong friend.

He is preceded in death by his three brothers, Marvin (ME) Haywood, Jimmy Pate Haywood, and Billy Haywood.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 pm on Monday, December 21, 2020, at Sunset Memory Gardens in Mint Hill, NC.
