MINT HILL, NC – Jane Maddox Christopher, 100, passed away peacefully on November 1, 2020.  She was born in Youngstown, FL on September 17, 1920.  She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Harry C. Christopher, and their daughter Mary Jane Furr.  She is survived by her son, Harry, and his wife Patti of Mint Hill, NC, Grandson Ryan and his wife Robin and her two Great Granddaughters Kendall and Savannah of Indian Trail, NC, and Son-In-Law, Rick Furr of Ft Myers, FLJane grew up in Youngstown, FL and while visiting in Ohio, she met her future husband, Harry, and they were later married July 20, 1942.  He entered the military and was initially stationed at Ft Lewis in Seattle, WA. While there, he received orders to serve in the Asiatic Pacific Fleet.  While he was deployed overseas, Jane worked at the Boeing Aircraft Company in Seattle as a “Rosie the Riveter”.  At the end of his military service in October 1945, they moved to Canton, OH.  Their son, Harry, came along in July 1949 and their Daughter, Mary Jane, in January 1951. The family moved to Panama City, FL in 1953 to open up a local restaurant, Angelo’s, where they both worked.  They were active members of Cove Baptist Church in Panama City. Harry and Jane moved to Pensacola, FL in 1965 with their children where their careers in the restaurant business continued.  Jane was known for her pleasant personality and welcoming demeanor with everyone she met.  They were active members of Brownsville Baptist Church. When her husband accepted a position with The Downtowner Motor Inns, they moved to Charlotte, NC in 1972.  They were dedicated members of East Baptist Church for over 40 years. In 1979, her son, Harry, his wife, and new baby moved to Charlotte to be with them.  Her Grandson, Ryan, was the apple of her eye and she helped raise him to be the man he is today. Jane loved to be around family, friends, and church members where she particularly enjoyed Wednesday night Prayer Meeting dinners and other church activities. Friday night dinners with her family were very special. Her husband passed away in 1995 and she remained in their home until 2011. She moved to Weddington Place Assisted Living for 7 years.  Two years ago, she moved to Clear Creek Nursing and Rehab Center in Mint Hill, NC. In September 2020 her family, friends, the Mint Hill Police, and Fire Departments celebrated Jane’s 100th birthday with a “Ride Around” at her residence at the Clear Creek. Jane will be sadly missed by many nieces, nephews, family, and friends.  Although our hearts are heavy, we will celebrate Jane’s life knowing that she is in heaven watching over us.

Funeral Services will be held Saturday, November 7, 2020, at East Baptist Church, 6850 Monroe Road, Charlotte, NC 28212.  Visitation will be at 1:00 followed by her service at 2:00. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made in her name to East Baptist Church. Burial will be at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Matthews, NC following the church service.
