MINT HILL, NC – Ernest “Ernie” Mack Jamison, age 89, of Matthews, North Carolina passed away on Wednesday, April 27, 2022.

Ernie was born on May 9, 1932 in Charlotte, NC.  Son of the late Ernest Mack Jamison, Sr. and Zellie Foard Jamison.  Ernie was predeceased by his siblings; Edmond Jamison, Helen Wilson, Mary Hewitt, James Jamison, Virginia McCurdy and grandson, Christopher Jamison.



Ernie grew up on his parent’s dairy farm where he raised Beagles and trained them to hunt.  He enjoyed hunting and fishing with family and friends.

Later in life, Ernie worked at his sister’s “Dairy Queen” on Central Avenue where he met the love of his life, Linda Pence. They married on August 4,1956 and enjoyed 65 wonderful years together.

He left the “Dairy Queen” to work for Esso, which is now known as Exxon Mobil, where he retired after 38 years.  There he also served as Employee Representative for the Southeast Region.

Ernie coached girl’s softball for the Mint Hill Athletic Association and served as the Mint Hill Little League Baseball President for 5 years, and President of the Idlewild Volunteer Fire Department for 10 years.  He was also a member of the Mint Hill Masonic Lodge and the Mint Hill Order of the Eastern Star where he served as Worthy Patron and other offices.

Ernie and Linda loved traveling and camping in the US, Canada, South America and along the Panama Canal.  They visited every state but  5.

He has been a faithful member of Philadelphia Presbyterian Church since 1956.  Ernie served as Deacon and Elder, serving as chairman of many committees, but his love was the Building & Grounds Committee, where he served for 26 years.  He also served as Sunday School Department Treasurer and Chairman of the Cemetery Committee.  He was a member of the Ralph Leete Sunday School class, serving as Treasurer for 12 years. He and Linda were Youth Leaders for Junior and Senior High groups.  They also served the Jolly Good Timers for 8 years and helped set up meetings and drove the church bus on outings.

Ernie is survived by his wife, Linda Pence Jamison; daughter, Melissa Roberts and husband, Stuart; son Mark Jamison and wife, Anita; grandchildren, Rebecca Barilovits (Stephen IV), Caroline Williams (Jonathan), Andrew Jamison (Lauren); two great-grandsons, Stephen “V” Barilovits V and Hayden Jamison; sister in law, Carolyn J. Pence, and his beloved cat, Smokey.

In lieu of customary remembrances, the family requests memorials be sent to Philadelphia Presbyterian Church Building and Grounds.

A visitation for Ernie will be held Saturday, April 30, 2022 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM in the sanctuary at Philadelphia Presbyterian Church, 11501 Bain School Rd, Mint Hill, NC 28227.  Funeral services will follow at 11:00 AM.  Burial will be at Sharon Memorial Park, 5716 Monroe Road, Charlotte, NC 28212.
