MINT HILL, NC – Daniel D. Pavelecky “Danny” age 68, passed away peacefully on December 26, 2020, at his home in Mint Hill, NC. During the previous days, he laughed and made memories during an Italian Feast of the Seven Fishes on Christmas Eve with his family and got to watch his grandsons open gifts on Christmas morning. He was born on February 29, 1952, in Cleveland Heights, OH, to the late Harry and Mary Pavelecky.
For over 40 years, Danny was proud to work in the construction industry. He belonged to the Local 18 Operating Engineers Union. He loved his work so much, that he amassed a collection of diecast construction models. He began gifting pieces from his collection to his grandsons for their birthdays. He also enjoyed looking for collectibles at local flea markets, a pastime that he enjoyed with both his wife and his children.
Danny was a loyal fan of the Cleveland Browns and of the Cleveland Indians, but his favorite athletes were his grandsons, Harry, Mason, and Freddie. He never missed a practice or a game for his grandsons in Charlotte and he would FaceTime to watch his grandson in Florida any chance that he could. He was acknowledged at the end of one of Harry’s baseball seasons as the team’s number one fan, an honor that he held near and dear to his heart. The kids on the team signed a ball for him that he kept on his mantle.
He was an outdoorsman who loved fishing and hunting. One of his favorite pastimes was gardening, which he passed along to daughters and to his grandsons, even though the deer would often eat all of the tomatoes that were planted.
Danny loved food, family, and friends. He never passed up an opportunity to enjoy a conversation and a cigar with one of his sons-in-law on a warm Sunday afternoon. He was always ready to grill some ribs, steam clams, and make some blueberry pancakes for his family.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Michael Pavelecky, and many aunts and uncles.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Linda Pavelecky; his three daughters, Elizabeth Bertke and husband Jordan, Sarah Miranda and husband Justin Miranda, and Mary Frances Pavelecky; his grandchildren, Harrison “Harry” Bertke, Frederick “Freddie” Bertke, and Mason Miranda; his brother, Richard Pavelecky and wife Lisa and his brother-in-law, Kevin Fennessy.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held late Spring in Wickliffe, Ohio for all family and friends. More details to be shared.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to Joslin Diabetes at https://www.joslin.org to help people at all stages of life thrive with diabetes.
