Joan Patricia Hamlin Cabaniss, 65, of Mint Hill, was born into the heavenly kingdom of her eternal Father on June 17, 2017, the day before Father’s Day.
Joan was born in Eden, North Carolina, on December 4, 1951, the daughter of Raymond Wilbert and Ola Mae Scales Hamlin. She had a BA degree in Sociology and Psychology from Barber Scotia College. She worked for CMS, CPCC, Gatling Juvenile Detention Center and Mecklenburg County Department of Social Services for a total of over 38 years in various positions including social worker, teacher, Compensatory Education Instructor and counselor.
On June 1, 1974, she married the love of her life, Warren Cornelius Cabaniss, and they were blessed with one son, Warren Christopher. Her favorite things in life were her wedding day, a peaceful and loving home, growing up with loving and caring parents and as an adult, creating a caring and loving peaceful home of her own. She was proud of her faith and ensured that faith, hope and love were centerpoints to her Christian family, the traits that show the Fruit of the Spirit. She not only loved but lived her favorite verses, 1 Corinthians 13:13 “And now faith, hope and love abide these three and the greatest of these is love.” And Galatians 5:22 “The Fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.”.
She was a godly woman whose inner peace and joy touched and blessed all who knew her and she will be sadly missed until that day when all are reunited in spirit.
Joan is survived by her husband of 43 years, Warren; her son Warren Christopher Cabaniss also of Charlotte; her brother, Pastor Michael Wayne Hamlin (wife, Monica) of Cary, NC, and his twin daughters, Adia and Akole; her god daughter Makia McCain; and her four legged German Shepherd/Lab Retriever mix “Jax”. Joan is further survived by numerous other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Raymond Edward Hamlin; and a sister, Geneva Hamlin.
Joan was proud to be a member of Throne of Grace Church and Dr. M.H. Russell of Throne of Grace will lead the Homegoing Service. The Homegoing Service and visitation was held Tuesday, June 20, at New Waves of Joy Baptist Church, 4739 East W.T. Harris Blvd, Charlotte 28215. Visitation began at 10:30 AM with services following at 11 AM. Following the service, Joan was taken in formal procession to her final place of earthly rest at Sunset Memory Gardens, 8901 Lawyers Road, Mint Hill, NC 28227.
In lieu of flowers or food, memorials in Joan’s name would be greatly appreciated to Throne of Grace Church, 7200 Albemarle Road, Charlotte, NC 28227.
