This weekend at Veterans Park
Even Bigger and Better!
Sheryl Smith, Event Manager for the town of Mint Hill, begins planning for Mint Hill Madness in September, and her efforts will surely pay off this weekend. “So much has been added this year. We’ve increased our fireworks budget, so that will be spectacular–the biggest in Southeast N. Carolina–and possibly the whole state!” She added, “We have 100 vendors, 20 sponsors, and 70 parade entries. While last year there was one marching band in the parade, this year there will be three! ” said Sheryl, then went on to explain, “This is the 34th year for Mint Hill Madness, and every year it gets better and more popular, partly due to social media.”
What else is new? The Boy Scouts will offer a shuttle service from overflow parking to the front of the park, there will be Knockerball (think Sumo wrestlers in big bubbles), and a new VIP Contest, where the winners will receive VIP parking, special seating for the fireworks, chairs and pizza. Go to the MHM website to enter, but hurry–Wednesday is the last day to enter.
While the Madness begins Friday evening, the first organized event will be The Battle of Mint Hill, starting Saturday at 8 a.m. at the park’s tennis courts. Fitness buffs will compete to see who is actually the “fittest”. The parade will begin at 9 a.m., starting at Publix and ending at the Food Lion on Fairview. ” We are proud to have Klaus Seibert as our Grand Marshall this year,” Sheryl said. Later, the Opening Ceremony will be at noon at the park. There will be live entertainment in the evening, including Blue Monday, a Rolling Stones tribute band on Saturday.
As always, there will be plenty of rides and food, and games- something for everyone! So why is it called Mint Hill Madness? Probably because you’ll have a CRAZY good time!
