At 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 4, the newly opened Novant Health Mint Hill Medical Center welcomed Courtland Tolbert Jr., the first baby born in the new facility.
His parents are Ansley Foy and Courtland Tolbert. Courtland Jr.’s grandmother, Teresa Foy, was also there to welcome him when he arrived.
“It was great, the hospital was great,” Ansley Foy said.
The hospital had all new equipment and the staff was great. Courtland Jr. is her first child and she felt everything went well. The hospital even gave her a gift basket that included a robe for her and various baby items before she left. Since taking her son home, he has been doing well and she describes him as a very well-behaved baby. When she first went to the hospital, she had no idea that he was going to be the first baby the hospital delivered, Ansley Foy said.
“It’s a great feeling,” she said.
Dr. Chris Chandler, who delivered Foy’s son, said that he is happy both of them are doing well.
He feels honored to be the first doctor to deliver a baby at the hospital, Chandler said.
Novant Health Mint Hill Medical Center opened to the public at the beginning of October.
“The facility is just beautiful. It was obviously designed for the patient,” Chandler said.
The hospital has a variety of comfort features for patients and spacious rooms that are laid out well and with the patient in mind, he said.
