MINT HILL, NC – Over the past few weeks, some of the volunteers, all local craftsman, constructed the lean-to frames, including a few interior walls in the barn. The volunteers all had protective masks and kept a safe distance from each other to complete or advance their individual tasks on the project.
One master craftsman built a beautiful wooden staircase to the loft. The upstairs loft area is not yet complete, but soon a floor is expected to be added which will be a huge step in getting the second floor loft finished.
In the following weeks, several major projects are planned to take place. This includes framers putting up sheeting around the lean-to’s, they will deck the lean-to’s roof, construct additional interior wall frames and expect to install the structural insulated roofing panels. There will be more work needed to enclose the barn and volunteers are welcome.
If you are a woodworker and would like-an offsite project please contact the Mint Hill Historical Society. They have two cupolas to be built and need a master craftsman to get them completed. Contact Bob at 704-577-9714.
There will be more special projects both onsite and offsite after the barn has been enclosed. The Mint Hill Times will continue to keep our readers informed of the barn raising projects progress.
