Cell Phones for Soldiers is a national non-profit organization that collects and recycles used wireless phones.
With the proceeds from the recycling, the organization purchases prepaid phone cards for military families and has provided more than 220 million minutes of free talk time by sending more than 3 million calling cards to servicemen and women and recycling more than 11.7 million cell phones, reducing the impact on landfills..
November 11:Â Annual Silver Brush Art Show and Sale
The 2016 Annual Silver Brush Art Show and Sale will be held on November 11from 5PM to 9PM and on November 12 from 10AM to 4PM. This event is open to the public and has grown so it is being held at a new location: Southern Garden Events, 9101 Monroe Rd, Suite 120 in Charlotte, NC 28270.
Donations from this year’s event will benefit the Matthews Free Medical Clinic that provides free, quality healthcare to low income, uninsured patients of Matthews and surrounding areas in Mecklenburg and Union Counties. The Silver Brush Art Society has donated almost $50,000 from previous events.
The Silver Brush Art Society consists of eight of the finest area artists that come together each year for this benefit. Each artist has a distinctive, unique style and will be presenting some of their exciting new art work. All major mediums and a variety of subjects are represented. The artists are Prudy Weaver, Sandy Wilkinson, Cynthia Howard, Max McLeod, Julie Johnson, Sharon Furner, Susan Lackey, and Alex Pieterson.

November 14-18:Â Philadelphia Presbyterian Church and Transitional Kindergarten Book Fair
You are invited to a Bookaneer Book Fair. Come join the fun the week of November 14-18. Free paper shredding event from 8am-12pm, or until shredding trucks are full. Located at Land Use & Environmental Services Agency 2145 Suttle Ave, Charlotte, NC 28208. This event is for Mecklenburg County residents only. Residents are limited to the equivalent of three banker boxes worth of paper to be shredded.
November 15:Â Mint Hill Medical Office Building Ribbon Cutting
Event Starts:Â Tue, Nov 15th, 2016 10:00 am. Novant Health invites chamber members and the community to celebrate the grand opening of the Mint Hill Medical Office Building on Tuesday, November 15th from 10 am to 12 noon at 8110 Healthcare Loop, Charlotte (corner of Hwy 24/27 & 485).
Appetizers will be provided by Daphne’s Bakery, and Novant’s community cruiser will be on site offering flu shots. The Mint Hill Medical Office Building will feature Mint Hill OB/GYN, Lakeside Pediatrics and Lakeside Family Physicians.
The community will have the opportunity to meet Drs. Chris Chandler, Ava Hudson and Erica Berger.
December 1: Christmas Tree Lighting
Join us for the Town’s Annual Tree Lighting at Mint Hill Town Hall on December 1, 2016 at 7:00pm. Santa will be present to hear how wonderful the children have been and make note of their Christmas lists. We will also have hot chocolate and delicious cookies for all to enjoy. We look forward to seeing you at this cherished event.
December 3: Jingle All the Way 5K Walk/Run
Bring in the holidays while benefiting the Mint Hill Police Volunteer and Explorer Programs. The first annual Jingle All the Way 5K Run/Walk hosted by the Mint Hill Police Department will be held on Saturday, December 3rd at 9:00am at the Mint Hill Veterans Memorial Park, 8850 Fairview Rd. Mint Hill.
Come run/walk dressed as Santa or one of the many helpers. This is an opportunity for you to tie jingle bells to your sneakers and show off that ugly Christmas sweater.
