Give a little bit
Give a little bit of your love to me
I’ll give a little bit
I’ll give a little bit of my love to you
There’s so much that we need to share
So send a smile, and show you care.
“Give a little bit” – Supertramp

Tis the season for giving, or so they say. With Black Friday, Cyber Monday and those days, however, it sure seems like the season for shopping! But what do you give? Where do you find a gift that truly represents the love and care behind it? As a friend of mine and I were discussing these holiday “questions of life”, I told him he could always shop at my funeral home. Needless to say, he stopped dead in his tracks (pardon the pun), turned toward me, and looked at me like I was the second coming of the Lord! Slowly a smile started and a deep laugh found its way up and out of the deepest part of his chest. “Did you seriously just use ‘gift shopping’ and ‘funeral home’ in the same sentence?”

Now I know what you are thinking, those are not terms typically used in the same sentence. But if you stop to think about it, what is the unique opportunity I am afforded for everyone who calls upon me? Aside from the obvious care of a loved ones’ body, I give people a chance to share and celebrate the moments in life where they lived, laughed and loved. And since feelings cannot be seen or touched, it is up to me to find unique ways that they can be touched, seen and shared. And that is the definition of a gift.

I am proud to offer and provide numerous gifts for celebrating life’s moments. From pillows to blankets, from fingerprint jewelry to keepsake lockets that hold a lock of hair, there are a variety of items that truly celebrate the memories of living, laughing and loving. So the next time you need to shop for a personal gift, please consider using the words “gift shopping” and “funeral home” in the same sentence. Not only will it make others around you question your choice of words, it will also provide a truly unique opportunity to share a memory of life, laughter and love.
