
MINT HILL, NC – The Novant Health Mint Hill Medical Center held it’s first ever Memorial Day ceremony on the hospital grounds on Thursday, May 17.

Medical Center Chaplain Mark Rumsey coordinated the event with local veteran organizations to honor the 1.3 million American patriots who made the ultimate sacrifice in all our nation’s conflicts from the American Revolution to the Global War on Terrorism. What matters rests in the hearts of these brave men and women. It is the devotion within that led them to sacrifice their lives for our country.
The veteran organizations in attendance include Mint Hill American Legion Post 555, Marine Corps League Charlotte Detachment 750, and Mint Hill VFW Post 4059. Medical professionals and administrative staff from the Medical Center gathered around the flagpole and gardens outside the front entrance of the facility for the ceremony.

The National Anthem was sung by Wes Watts, Officer Rob Daudelin, NH-MHMC-Public Safety a U.S. An Army veteran spoke about his military experience. American Legion Post 555 Commander Ed Berti made a presentation on the meaning of Memorial Day. A memorial wreath was displayed, and a bell was rung six times by Legionnaire Tim Ledford to signify each military service branch. Air Force veteran John Ellis played “Taps.” The Marine Corps League Color Guard presented the colors for the occasion.
