Police officers of Mint Hill met with citizens on Tuesday, December 5 at Showmar’s on Matthews Mint Hill Road.
One topic of discussion was sending and receiving gifts by mail during the holiday season. Corp. Michael Maness suggested that people who live in apartments have their packages sent to their leasing office or have a designated neighbor pick up their packages. He also suggested mailing gifts cards directly to the post office or a secured blue mailbox to avoid theft.
Sgt. Scott Hall expressed distain for cell phones when they become distractors. He emphasized “situational awareness” in that people need to notice who is parked beside them in a parking lot, who appears to be loitering, or acting in any way suspicious. He feels this type of vigilance cannot be obtained if people are busy talking or texting on their cell phones.
He also mentioned that eight lives have been saved so far this year by quick thinking officers. The most recent heroes are Michael Austin and Jacob Smith, who saved the life of a security officer in distress. They will soon be recognized at an upcoming town meeting.
Coffee With a Cop is held the first Tuesday morning of each month at 9 a.m.at various Mint Hill eating establishments. The public is encouraged to attend these coffees to ask questions of Mint Hill Police Officers or express concerns. More info can be found on the Mint Hill Police website.
