Abigail Brundrett, a student at Queens Grant High School, Â has been selected to receive the prestigious Presidential Volunteer Service Award, the MLK Jr Drum Major Program to honor her work and special commitment to service in the community.
Her dream is to see all her friends and family live and remain healthy throughout their life. This dream and passion has lead her to seek international attention to raise awareness for Cystic Fibrosis through the Strawfie Challenge and enhance the development of new medicines to fight this terrible disease.  Also, she is deeply involved with the Breathe with Me Organization based in England to raise lung cancer awareness globally. She is active with the American awareness group here at home.
Another organization she works with is Cindy’s Hope Chest, located in Indian Trail, NC to raise breast cancer awareness locally and nationwide. The group provides patients information, support, wigs, and prosthetics to assist those women who are battling breast cancer to maintain their quality of life. Abigail has dedicated over 250 hours of volunteer service, earning her the Gold status of the Presidential Volunteer Service Program.
The award Abigail received is by nomination only and given to only those volunteers who truly make a significant difference and perform extraordinary acts of service reliably and with a commitment to excellence and dedicated service. She is really an unsung hero living within our community which should make us all proud of her actions and dedication to those amongst us who are in need of compassion. She continues with this effort today and was chosen to receive this recognition because of her ongoing efforts to influence, improve, and increase awareness within the community around her, and impact the world at large.
She is in many ways your typical high school junior. However, she has a real passion to help others who are less fortunate and require medical, physical, and human assistance.
Some of her interests include cheerleading and dance. She truly enjoys a mixture of aerobatics, contemporary and modern dance. She also enjoys participating in sports and the arts.  Abigail is a World Perfect Dancer Grand Champion, and an All-Star Cheerleader. Her favorite movie continues to be  “Princess Bride.”  She will listen to Korean Pop music known as K-Pop, and her favorite group is Bullet Proof Boy Scouts (BTS).  When it comes to academics she really enjoys mathematics and science.
The advice she gives to her underclassman since she is now an aspiring senior is “don’t be shy or timid, everyone you meet along the way will be helpful because they also want to make a difference,” said Abigail.
