Many times, parents have asked me why they should sign their child up for an art class if he has not shown any talent. The first answer that comes to mind is that taking an art class is NOT just for students who already display a talent for art. One of my teachers has a boy who started out reluctantly but has since signed up for every one of her classes. He never knew that he was interested until he took a class. Also, I would add that studying art allows a student to be creative and learn some skills that can be applied to other subjects. Today, so much emphasis is put on the core subjects in school that the arts can be pushed to the side. Yet, statistics show that students who take art classes, visual and performing, score higher on standardized tests. Self-discipline and learning to follow instructions are important in art class as it is in other subjects.
Mint Hill Arts is offering the perfect way to give your child a chance to try art class with a Summer Sampler. He can sign up for that one class and see how he likes it. Also, there are a variety of classes being offered to allow students the chance to take more than one this summer.
