Mint Hill Christmas Light Contest to Honor Tina Ross

The 2nd annual Christmas Lights in Mint Hill contest will honor the late Tina Ross this year.

“Tina helped me come up with this idea last year, we wanted a way to encourage people to decorate for the holidays while also letting others know where to go to see the best light displays locally,” said Matt Schwoebel, contest creator and owner of Matt’s Lawn Care. “So it seems fitting to honor her by dedicating the contest to her memory this year.”

Any Mint Hill resident is welcome and encouraged to participate and a portion of the proceeds help support a good cause, Servant’s Heart of Mint Hill Assistance Programs and Community Boutique.

The entry fee this year is $15, half of all proceeds will be donated to Servant’s Heart and the other half will be split among each of the category winners.

There will be an online entry form along with a printable one. All printed entry forms and all entry fees must be dropped off in a sealed envelope at Servant’s Heart located at 9929-N. Lawyers Rd. Only cash can be accepted.

The entry period is from Nov. 25 to Dec. 10 with all forms and pictures of light displays due on Dec. 10.

Voting for the winners will begin on Dec. 12 and the winners will be announced by Dec. 23.

The display pictures and voting will be in the Facebook Group Mint Hill Christmas. Though all are encouraged to see each light display in person so each address is given as well.

There will be 3 categories: Classic Christmas, Inflatables and Yard Decorations, and Seen from Space (Over 10,000 lights)

“Pictures really don’t do some of the light displays justice,” said Lauren Schwoebel, co-creator of the contest. “Plus the whole point is to get everyone out to enjoy the season and all of the light displays in our community.”
