2018 Marks 25th Anniversary of Scouting for Food for Loaves & Fishes

Saturday, February 3rd, the Mecklenburg County Council of the Boy Scouts of America will go Scouting for Food.  Scouts will go door-to-door in neighborhoods throughout Mecklenburg County collecting non-perishable food items for Loaves & Fishes.  Last year’s Scouting for Food drive collected 240,000 pounds of food to help feed hungry neighbors in need.

This year marks 25th anniversary of Scouting for Food’s partnership with Loaves & Fishes. Since 1993, Scouting for Food has brought in 4.5 million pounds of food for Loaves & Fishes to feed hungry neighbors in need.

Scouting for Food is the super bowl of food drives for Loaves & Fishes with the food collected used to stock pantry shelves after the busy holiday season. Loaves & Fishes provides a week’s worth of nutritionally balanced groceries through a network of 30 emergency food pantries in Mecklenburg County. In 2017, Loaves & Fishes fed over 75,000 people, 48% were children.
