Vint Hill Services has been around approximately five years and offers tutoring, help with SAT prep and more.
The business is operated by Michael Oliver and though it has an office in the Ballantyne area, its tutors work one-on-one with students at the students’ homes or other convenient locations for students’ families.
Oliver moved to the Charlotte area in August. He originally started Vint Hill Services in the Washington, D. C. and Virginia areas. He has since decided to expand it to Charlotte.
“Everything is one-to-one in home either weekend or week day or at a library or Panera Bread, so really convenient for the parents,” Oliver said.
Vint Hill Services offers specific subject tutoring as well as test prep for the SAT, ACT and various private high school entrance exams. To help students prepare, the business offers mock tests for practice and to help evaluate students’ needs, he said.
“All of our tutors have a minimum of a bachelor’s degree, they take an SAT or ACT or Physics test or Calculus test before we bring them on board,” Oliver said.
Background checks are also done on tutors and they go through an intensive interviewing process. The business currently has tutors that can serve throughout the Mint Hill and Matthews area as well as other parts of Charlotte, Oliver said.
He previously worked for a large test prep company that had more than 200 tutors. The commute to work was long and the hours he worked weren’t easy on his family so he decided to start Vint Hill Services. The business originally started out of the basement of his house and took off from there. Today it offers tutoring and test prep services in Washington, D.C., various parts of Virginia and now Charlotte. He enjoys seeing the reaction of parents to how much their children’s skills have improved with the help of Vint Hill Services, Oliver said.
