Thirteen Local Chick-fil-A Team Members Receive Remarkable Futures Scholarships

MINT HILL, NC – Chick-fil-A Mint Hill and Chick-fil-A Albemarle Road are excited to announce that thirteen Team Members have received 2023 Remarkable Futures Scholarships totaling $29,500: Daniel Salguedo, Alexis Arenas-Villalba, Claire Young, Mekhi Abdullah, Turner Queen, Deborah Lemp, Conner Trakas, Makenzie Indresano, Hanna Getahun, Reagan Gordon, Cameron Hodges, Sarah Grace Queen, and Tyler Jimenez.

Every year through the Remarkable Futures Scholarship initiative, Chick-fil-A offers scholarship opportunities to Team Members who work at a franchised, company-owned and/or affiliated restaurants in the United States, Puerto Rico or Canada.  These scholarships can be used at any accredited college, university or technical/vocational school and are available for both full-time and part-time students.

Chick-fil-A’s Remarkable Futures Scholarships help local college-bound seniors turn their dreams into reality.  “Chick-fil-A has taught me time management, multitasking, and ultimately teamwork and socializing,” said Danny Salguedo, an Independence High School graduate who will attend UNC Charlotte next year, “all qualities needed for college and the workforce.”

“Chick-fil-A has prepared me for college and the workforce by allowing me to perfect skills such as determination, teamwork, and communication,” added East Meck senior Cameron Hodges, who plans to study Political Science at NC A&T next year.

“Chick-fil-A has taught me many valuable lessons, such as responsibility, leadership, time management, compassion, and more, and has allowed me to come out of my shell,” says Queen’s Grant graduate Conner Trakas, who plans to attend CPCC before transferring to Chapel Hill in the fall of 2025. 

Remarkable Futures Scholarships aren’t just for graduating seniors.  Pensacola Christian College student Deborah Lemp has been a Team Member at Chick-fil-A’s Albemarle Road location for five and a half years.  She’s using her scholarship to pursue a degree in Office Systems with hopes of becoming a Business Culture Consultant.  Deborah is one of twelve children, seven of whom have worked at Chick-fil-A, along with their mother as well.

Currently a senior at UNC Charlotte, Mekhi Abdullah has been with Chick-fil-A for five years.   “Chick-Fil-A has taught me discipline and time management and prepared me to be a professional. It has helped me to have the the mindset of working hard and staying focused,” says Abdullah.  After he graduates in December of 2023, Abdullah hopes to become an Operator.

This year alone, Chick-fil-A announced more than $25 million in scholarships, investing in higher education for more than 13,000 restaurant Team Members.  To date, Chick-fil-A has helped 93,000 Team Members achieve their dreams through more than $162 million in scholarships since 1973, marking 50 years of the Remarkable Futures scholarship program.
