MINT HILL, NC – After a two-year hiatus, The Mint Hill Historical Society is excited to announce that they will once again be hosting the Mint Hill Rodeo at 8201 Bartlett Road. The rodeo will take place on April 22nd and 23rd and will have PeeWee, Junior High, and High School level events.

“The Mint Hill Historical Society is happy to be hosting again,” says Rodeo Committee Chairman Hood Dulin. “Our team has done an excellent job getting this event off the ground. We’re gonna have Peewee’s riding sheep, breakaway roping in Junior High, and two nights of high school competition.”

Dulin knows what a big deal the rodeo is for the Mint Hill community. “Not only is this a great way we raise money for the Historical Society to keep Mint Hill’s history alive, but the rodeo is also an opportunity for these competitors to earn scholarship money and a place in the National Competitions, too. This event is the biggest rodeo in North and South Carolina, and Mint Hill is happy to help these kids do the sport they enjoy the best way they know how.”

The competitive events aren’t the only reason community members should attend this year’s rodeo. “Rain or shine, we will have lots of booths for local businesses that are supporting the rodeo. And, of course, there will be lots of good food,” Historical Society Executive Director Becky Griffin says with a twinkle in her eye. “There will be kettle corn, funnel cakes – all that good carnival food we love. Our newest sponsor, Chick-fil-A, will also have a booth there.”

“Actually, we’re making the entire month of April ‘Rodeo Month’ at the Mint Hill Chick-fil-A location,” Denise Boston, Community and Brand Director for Chick-fil-A, informs. “Our kick-off event is from 3:00 – 5:00 pm on April 9th. We will have some of the rodeo participants in our parking lot with their horses. Families can come by, play some games, take pictures, and meet the competitors. It’s a great way to get to know the faces behind the names they’ll be cheering on at the event.”

Chick-fil-A is also holding a raffle to win four unique prize packs! From the 9th through the 19th, activity sheets will be available in the restaurant. Kids can come, fill out the activity sheets and drop them in a bucket. On April 20th, the winners will be drawn. The prize packs will include tickets to the rodeo, vouchers for Chick-fil-A food at the rodeo and other items.

The rodeo is great, family-friendly entertainment. Tickets are only $10 at the gate for 12 and up; kids 12 and under are $5. Friday night the gates will open at 6:00 pm On Saturday, the gates will open at 9 am The Historical Society hopes to see everybody there!

*Volunteers are still needed for this event. If you are interested in volunteering, please call or leave a message with the Historical Society Main Office at (704) 573-0726.
