Shea Homes opened the doors on May 12 to their two new models in the Summerwood neighborhood nestled in Mint Hill, with quick access to I-485. This established neighborhood offers a community pool and cabana, plus paved nature trails and scenic pond.
Shea Homes’ model homes are the Camden and Chandler. They both back up to the neighborhood pond and offer on-trend design elements, with wooden beams, shiplap, custom built-ins, fun tile accents, and more. The Camden model home presents a Craftsman-style exterior, with a covered front porch with painted siding and stone accents. Inside are beautiful moldings, coffered ceiling details, and a practical, open layout with the Owner’s Suite on the main floor. The Camden is 2,928 square feet and includes 4 bedrooms, 3.5 baths, a Rec Room plus walk-in attic storage.
The Chandler model home has a traditional four-sides brick exterior, with a spacious Dining Room, gourmet Kitchen with two-toned cabinets, shiplap, and so much more. It is is 3,701 square feet and includes a first floor guest suite, 4 bedrooms, 3.5 baths, a Rec Room, plus walk-in storage which can be converted to a Bonus Room. The Owner’s Suite is on the second level.
I had the privilege to speak with Kelly Moorcroft (Shea Homes’ Creative Marketing Manager), and received great information about the community. Kelly specified that customers may select their own plan, homesite, and structural options, and then further personalize their home in Shea Homes’ 3,900 square-feet Design Studio. Summerwood offers 1.5 & 2 story homes with 3-6 Bedrooms, 2-3.5 Bathrooms, with a total area between 2,873 and 4,325 square feet. Basement homesites are available! Base prices start in the upper $300’s. 9 floor plans are available to choose from; they offer first floor Owner or Guest Suite options, rear covered porches for enjoying our great Carolina weather, and extra living spaces such as Lofts, Rec or Bonus Rooms. Home offices, built-in tech/homework stations and attic storage are available in many plans, for how families live today.
Martin Reill, a Shea Homes Product Development Manager, explained in an interview what trends will be big in 2018 and beyond. He described how the company is adapting its houses to the new styles. As the most popular design “we have seen many homeowners wanting to forego traditional living and dining room spaces in favor of larger, multipurpose spaces that incorporate the kitchen, great room, and dining room into one area for an open concept floor plans. The kitchen has now become the hub of entertainment and family gatherings.
Another trend is to support multi-generational living. We also need to recognize recent cultural shifts. Things like having two master bedrooms in a floorplan, flex spaces, and guest suites have been in demand from many of our homeowners. When you have multiple generations living under one roof, it is nice for everyone to have their own space within the home. Adding things like an additional private bathroom, a small refrigerator, cabinets, and extra storage into rooms helps to make it feel like its own personal space within a home.”
