MINT HILL, NC – On Saturday, May 23, Principal Ericia Turner and some of her staff from Rocky River High School, ventured out to the homes of their graduating seniors to make surprise visits and gift each senior with a celebratory yard sign. The visits began at 9 am and some students were still sleeping! They were jolted from their sleep by the sounds of “Pomp and Circumstance” playing from car speakers and cheers from their teachers, counselors, and administrators. Some students heard car horns replacing their usual alarm clocks. They peeked through their blinds first and noticed orange pom-poms being waved in the air and RRHS staff jumping up and down with excitement. Once students opened their doors and saw the familiar faces, their Raven family, the reactions provided were priceless: smiles from ear to ear, dancing, dramatic poses, and mirrored cheers. Families and neighbors joined in on the celebration and many pictures were taken to capture the moment. The school’s Facebook page features a host of pictures from the event. Many of the students are shown still in their pajamas due to it being a Saturday morning, and most of the staff can be seen wearing protective masks due to social-distancing precautions. Based on the reactions from students and the Facebook comments from parents- the yard sign delivery event was a success! (click any picture below to see the gallery)
