MINT HILL, NC – The Rocky River Ravens Jaylan Byrd has been selected this week Player Of The Week based on his performance on Friday night at “The Rock” in a 30-13 loss to the Cougars from Charlotte Catholic in a Southwestern 4A Conference matchup.
Byrd had a solid offensive performance in the football game gaining 76 yards of rushing offense in the ground game, while he added another 7 yards on a kickoff return for a total of 83 yards. He also made some key blocks throughout the contest making a positive contribution to the 154 yards gained in the Ravens ground game.
The big play to seal Byrd’s selection came with a little over three minutes remaining in the football game. On a second down from the Ravens own 45 yard line, he would receive the handoff from Ravens QB Khalil Archie, find a crease, break a tackle, with good vision locate the opening down the left sideline, turn on the afterburners, then dash for 55 yards scoring the games most exciting touchdown with four Cougars in hot pursuit giving the Ravens an opportunity for a potential comeback.
In a game dominated by both clubs defensive units in the first half, and the teams offenses taking command in the second half putting up a total of 33 points, Byrd’s rumble in the 4th quarter stands out as the games best play of the contest.
The sportswriters at the Mint Hill Times would like to congratulate Jaylan Byrd for his selection as this weeks Player Of The Week.
