The Independence High School Air Force JROTC program competed in the Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools JROTC Volleyball tournament on Saturday, September 14th. The cadet women’s and men’s teams finished in third and fifth place respectively. This was the girl’s second year competing and they did an outstanding job.
Also, the cadets participated in the annual YMCA Naturalization Ceremony at the Simmons YMCA location in Charlotte. They joined in the festivities to welcome new American citizens in the celebration of the nationwide events across America to congratulate these new Americans to our country and community by bringing together all residents in the spirit of unity.
This week was Welcome Week, a reminder of working together for the common good and the resilient inclusive spirit of the local Charlotte community as we participate in this nationwide event being held in American communities throughout the country in small, rural and urban locations.
Welcoming Week, founded by Welcome America, is an annual celebration to bring together people from all walks of life to celebrate the contributions of legal immigrants and refugees. Local leaders are bringing their communities together to bridge the divisions and perceived differences among people to build stronger bonds through economics, communication, cooperation, and greater prosperity for all.
