The outgoing executive board consisting of Andree West/Marilyn Fargo (Co-Presidents), Sandy Dimeo (Secretary) and Cheryl Reid (Treasurer) served an unexpectedly long three-year term due to disruptions related to COVID-19.

“Obviously, no one anticipated that in March of 2020 as we were winding up our first year, that everything would be put on hold for 18 months,” says West.  “Fortunately, we had our fundraiser prior to that and had an abundance of funds to not only distribute immediately, but allow us to continue to provide scholarships to CPCC in 2021 as well as continue to honor our commitment within the community for our service projects for the last two years.”

Many other members pitched in to make sure the club could continue their work over the past two years.  Board members Marilyn Folnsbee, Kathy Cowles, Pam Dalton, Suzanne Maddox, Anne Doughty, Ginnie Freeburn, Cheryl Crawford and Kay Major also served extended terms.

The Women’s Club has also recently begun distributing funds to various organizations they support in the Mint Hill area.  A total of more than $25,000 is going back to the community in the form of financial donations as well as service projects, benefiting organizations like the Mint Hill PD Explorers Group, Honor the Warriors, Servant’s Heart, Sunflower Club Outreach and Mint Hill Library.  This assistance was made possible by the Women’s Club’s extensive fundraising efforts through directory business card ads, participation in the Pop Up Christmas Shop, and, above all, Sip, Savor, Support.

“We would once again like to thank our 108 members as well as community partners for supporting us throughout the year,” says West.  “Their support is what enables us to give back to the community.  As we continue to evolve as an organization, we are seeing younger ladies become members and during this three-year period, we increased our membership from 60 women to over 100.”

On Monday, June 13, the Women’s Club hosted an open house at Mint Hill Town Hall in an effort to recruit additional new members.  An additional 8 ladies joined the club.  Former Co-President Andree West and new President Jessica Burns gave an overview of the club, its mission and its activities, and eight ladies joined.  The next open house will be Monday , August.  “We are excited for this new board to take us further in our journey to 49-50 years of continued service to Mint Hill’s residents,” concludes West.
