The Mint Hill Police Department is forming a new 2019 class for the Citizens Academy. The course is a well prepared curriculum taught one night weekly for nine weeks by the department. Students will learn about various aspects of police operations. Participants will meet many of the police officers as they explain their various roles serving the community at large. Course participants will also learn how officers are trained, how every citizen can protect themselves and the community against crime. Various demonstrations will highlight the many skills and abilities officers must have to effectively protect our town.
An important, exciting and challenging phase of the Academy is the opportunity to go outside the classroom environment and participate in many of the practical exercises that complement training police officers. This first hand experience will provide the participants with valuable knowledge while looking at the dynamic world of police work today.
Interested participants must submit to a limited background investigation by the Mint Hill Police Department that will include a check of any criminal history and driving record. Acceptance into the program will be on an individual basis that will be personally determined by the Chief of Police.
Participating students must be a minimum of 18 years of age by the first day of class. Course space is limited, however, a waiting list will be drafted for future classes should the demand exceed the available capacity.
The Citizens Academy is an excellent opportunity to become informed about crime and public safety. It gives Mint Hill residents, those affiliated with the town, anyone considering law enforcement as a career an avenue to develop working relationships with officers, and to obtain first hand knowledge of the challenges these heroes face daily in our society.
