MINT HILL, NC – Second-term Mayor Brad Simmons and the newly elected Board of Commissioners were sworn in and took their Oaths of Office on Thursday, December 9, at the Town Hall in a packed room filled with local residents, town officials, family, friends, and media.

Former Commissioner Michael Cochrane receives an appreciation plaque for his service from Mayor Simmons.

The Commissioners include Dale Dalton, the top vote getter for a Commissioners seat, who will be serving his fourth term. Dalton was also nominated by the Mayor and Board members to be Mayor Pro Tempore. Tony Long and Patrick Holton will both be serving their second terms as Town Commissioners. Newcomer Twanna Henderson is the first woman to serve as a Mint Hill Commissioner since Tina Ross served in the same capacity. She was warmly welcomed on board by the Mayor and Commissioners.

This is an important time for Mint Hill as the town is experiencing steady growth.  We have an excellent Police Department, Fire Department, and Parks and Recreation, staff. The Mint Hill Fire Department is in need of a second fire station. There are a growing number of businesses and residential project proposals being presented along with some projects under discussion and proposed by Mecklenburg County.

Newly elected Board of Commissioners. Left to Right, Tawana Henderson, Patrick Holton, Dale Dalton, Mayor Simmons, and Tony Long.

Henderson replaces outgoing Commissioner Michael Cochrane, who served the community for the past four years and did a very noble and honorable job during his tenure. Cochrane is stepping down and did not run for reelection due to a personal family matter.

Overall, the December meeting of the Board of Commissioners was an exciting event for all who attended and participated. We wish the newly elected team much success as they work together to continue making Mint Hill a great place to live and work.
