MINT HILL, NC – Writers of all experience and skill levels are encouraged to join their peers at the Mint Hill Library on the third Saturday of each month to exchange ideas, share work and feedback, and meet other local amateur writers.
“The group meets once a month to discuss what they are working on or to discuss ideas,” explains the group’s leader, Brittani Brooks, who also gives out writing assignments each month to help keep the creative juices flowing. “I try to incorporate assignments that relate to something people are working on to give other ways for them to look at what they have written. At the meetings, we read out loud what we are working on and discuss what works and doesn’t. Everyone is encouraged to give feedback on what has been shared. We also do some creative writing while we meet.”
If the idea of sharing your writing with a group of strangers sound intimidating, rest assured that anyone is welcome to join! “It doesn’t matter whether they are just starting out or have a lot of experience,” assures Brooks. “We have a couple members in the group who have already been published. The group is perfect for anyone who wants to write whether they aspire to be published or are just writing for themselves.”
The new Writing Group is one of many new offerings to come to the Mint Hill Library post-pandemic. To reserve a spot, visit the library’s website (https://www.cmlibrary.org/branch/mint-hill) and search for “Mint Hill Writing Group.” If you have questions or need assistance registering, email firstname.lastname@example.org.
“The Mint Hill Writing Group provides an outlet for people to share their writing or learn how to write better,” concludes Brooks. “We provide a friendly atmosphere for people to share their writing and receive feedback because not all writers have the same writing style or taste in material.”
