MINT HILL, NC – On October 8, Mint Hill Coffee & Social House will celebrate its five-year anniversary with a customer appreciation day!!

Mint Hill Coffee and Social House started as a side hustle.  Six years ago owners Annette and Robert Smith were roasting coffee beans in a one-pound roaster at home and selling them at the Farmer’s Market on the weekends.

“Eventually, it got to be too much to roast one pound at a time,” explains Annette.  “It takes about 45 minutes to roast one pound, so we would be roasting all week long to have enough for Saturday.”  The Smiths began to look for a commercial space to house a larger roaster and ended up in a small house in downtown Mint Hill where Chik-fil-A currently stands.

“The thought process was really just to sell the beans,” says Annette, “so we put our roaster there, but then that led to a lot of people asking why we didn’t sell coffee.”  In 2017, Annette and Robert decided to give it a shot, and opened Mint Hill Roasting Company.

It was the right move.  Mint Hill Roasting Company was an immediate success.  In 2018, they moved to their current location next to the police department, and earlier this year, they expanded and rebranded as Mint Hill Coffee & Social House.  In September, Mint Hill Coffee House was chosen by the public as “Best Cuppa Joe” and “Best Way to Rise and Shine” in the Mint Hill Times’ Best Local Flavors contest.

On October 8, Mint Hill Coffee will celebrate five years in business with a full day of fun activities targeted at the people who have helped make them such a success:: their customers.  “Without our amazing customers we would never have made it to five years,” says Annette.  “We are continually thrilled by the support of our community.”

“There is a quote, ‘When you support a small business, you are supporting a dream.’ reflects Annette.  “Five years ago, we had a dream to have the opportunity to roast coffee and provide fresh local coffee to our community.  Today, as we celebrate five years in business, we thank our customers and community for supporting our dream.  There have been ups and downs, moves, expansions, pandemics, name changes, new products and so much more, but we are so grateful for this wonderful community who has been with us from the beginning and continues to grow with us.  As we look to the future, we can’t wait to continue to provide Mint Hill  with great coffee and service for many more years to come.”
