Mint Hill Residents,
I want to take an opportunity to wish you and your families a Happy New Year.
As I reflect on the past year, it was certainly not the one we hoped for when the ball dropped last January. Navigating the challenges of a global pandemic forced all of us to make changes to our daily routines and embrace a new normal. However, our community’s response to the trials faced this year has been incredibly encouraging. We adapted the way we connect with people and resources, using technology to our advantage for business, shopping, celebrations, gatherings, and even our most recent holidays. At Town Hall, for example, our Board of Commissioners meetings have been streamed virtually through the Town of Mint Hill YouTube page, allowing citizens to engage even when they could not attend in person. And although we were unable to host our traditional events, our residents captured the holiday spirit during our Scarecrow & Christmas Lights decorating contests and truly served our community by participating in our Mint Hill Acts of Kindness.
As we move into 2021, I am simply inspired to continue serving this town as your mayor. While I am not able to be out in the community as much as I would like, I will continue working to communicate as regularly as possible, with as many of you as possible. I will continue posting my weekly Mayor Messages and host office hours on Tuesdays and Thursdays. On Tuesdays, hours are scheduled from 1:00-4:00 pm and Thursdays from 9:00-11:00 am. As a reminder, an appointment for office hours is never necessary. However, if you would like to meet in person at Town Hall, please let me know so I can ensure I will be in the office during those times. Otherwise, feel free to call my cell phone at 704-579-2977. We will also continue providing opportunities for residents to engage in our monthly BOC meetings, especially as we work towards developing our updated Land Use Plan.
The governor-issued Stay-at-Home curfew is still in effect through January 8, 2021, and, considering our recent trends, may be extended. However, with the availability of the COVID vaccine in the coming months, I feel we are seeing a light at the end of this tunnel. I encourage each of you to continue practicing social distancing, wearing your masks, and washing your hands. I ask also that you continue to remember those struggling during this pandemic by looking out for your neighbors, shopping at one of our small businesses, or ordering a meal from a local restaurant. I am proud to be your mayor and serve our community.
I am thankful for the lessons learned in 2020 and look forward to brighter days in 2021.
Stay safe, stay healthy, stay home.
Brad Simmons
